  • Microsoft now sells Surface replacement parts.
  • The available repair parts depend on the Surface model.
  • Initially, the company is making them available in the US, Canada, and France.

Microsoft is now selling replacement parts to upgrade or fix Surface devices. Although Surface parts have been available for some time, they were only available for commercial customers. However, now anyone can purchase parts, such as Solid-State Drives, batteries, displays, and more.

According to the company announcement, the replacement parts are for technically consumers to perform self-repairs for out-of-warranty devices. Also, when buying a new component, you will receive the “collateral components (such as screws if applicable).”

However, you won’t get the tools to perform the repair. Instead, you will have to purchase the necessary tools from the iFixit. Microsoft has previously partnered with the company to sell official Surface repair tools.

The only caveat about this initiative is that the components you can order depend on the Surface model. For instance, if you have a Surface Pro 7, the only part you can order is the kickstand. On the other hand, if you have a Surface Pro 9, when you will be able to replace the display, storage drive, battery, ports, speakers, wireless adapter, and even the thermal modules.

Each component’s price will differ depending on the Surface model you’re trying to repair. For example, the display replacement for the Surface Studio 2 Plus is $1749.99, while the battery for the Surface Pro 9 is $239.99, and the kickstand is $56.99. You can always check the available replacement parts at the Microsoft Store.
